The Bow-wow?

This past week the main “stir” has been the controversy over President Obama’s bow to the Japanese Emperor- some from the right, and some from the left. In my mind there are a few things that stand out about this event and the aftermath of it.

1. I really don’t care if he bowed incorrectly, what happened to the good old fashioned handshake? You know, that gesture where you could know a mans strength and character just by the shake of a hand? And to give credit where credit is due, at least the man bowed.

2. Where did this “up-set” come from? As I sat in front of the television that afternoon watching the news story and reading the articles online I began to notice several of the articles titled things like: “Low blow: Ex-VP Dick Cheney slams President Obama for bowing to Japanese Emperor Akihito”, from NY Daily News. It is interesting because in this article it features a picture of former President George W. Bush holding hands with the Saudi prince in 2003. Interesting, isn’t it? Last time I checked the remark was made by former vice president Cheney, not former President Geroge W. Bush. Furthermore, I hope the country realizes that Cheney’s opinion doesn’t have to matter unless YOU CHOOSE to make it matter, it doesn’t have to be worth anything unless you believe (and by which you would making him) an authority on this topic of “weakness”. And lets face it, Cheney doesn’t know weakness or any emotion for that matter, as far as I noticed that man never even cracked a smile in the 8 years he spent in the White House. Take that statement as you may, I personally think it’s quite funny seeing as George W. Bush had almost always had a smile on. To be completely honest I also believe that perhaps people are just taking the attitude the Conservatives had towards Obama’s apology spree earlier this year, and foolishly applying it here so that they have some story to focus on until their beloved Public Option or Peloci Plan (as I like to call it) cleverly woven into the 1,000-something page bill, gains more support as people try to schmooze the senate. So my main question is, Who is up-set that actually matters? Or is this just a claim the left is making to get a rise out of the rational thinkers of this great nation. Where is the reason for up-set, Conservatives know better than to get angry over a bow.

3. I feel as though this distinction must be made. I feel as though the vermin on the left, will try to equate this experience with Obama’s apology spree earlier this year. *Here is why I am NOT okay with that.*

a. Obama left domestic affairs unaddressed for almost a month to go abroad and give international leaders emotional and political band-aids. Moreover, he spent time “collaborating” with leaders whose policies we will never support in countries where their women are not even free to walk the streets, vote or even drive.

Heres why this visit was different:
1. For Akihito, last time I checked, we aren’t in hot water with Japan anymore. We are definitely not on amicable terms with some of the leaders from the apology summit.
2. They are a civilized people who have a strong sense of nationalism and dedication to family, basic values held here in the United States (contrary to what the left would have you think).
3. Obama MIGHT have actually conducted some important business with that visit with Akihito. I have yet to hear about it.
4.I doubt Obama gave Akihito an ipod.
And to end on a funny note:
5. Obama looks nothing like Godzilla, though he looks like he could be twice the size of Akihito, and send some people running in fear.

Basically, there are more important things to worry about right now.
