United Nations: Tehran

What if the United Nations no longer had office space in downtown New York... would things change? I think they might.

What began decades ago as an idea to unite the world, to open channels for dialogue, to explore diplomatic resolutions to conflicts, and ultimately end the lose of life on battlefields has now become center stage for every spineless dictator and strong handed president to promote their own initiatives and in many cases verbally assault the host nation, America.

Why can't this meeting be held at one of the other do-nothing United Nations offices? Why do the likes of Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, and MoMo Quadfi of Libya, and Almondjoy of Iran get open and unrestricted access to our country? Furthermore why does the UN allow them to say the things they say and pitch ridiculous tents in the countryside?

In an age where information is readily available and communication from one side of the planet to the other takes but seconds, there is no longer a need to annually invite the sane and the insane to one location. Moreover, there is no need to bring them to the United States to have their meetings! Move the meeting to Geneva, or maybe even Mogadishu or Tehran, and then let's see if things change. Maybe a visit to Tehran where world leaders could look out of the windows and see the things happening in the streets there would change things. What do you think happens to rioters in downtown Tehran versus downtown NYC? Just a thought.
